Scenic Trossachs in central Scotland welcomes visitors who will find a wealth of interesting things to see and do in the historic region, which is steeped in Scottish clan history and folklore and associated with the legendary heroes Robert the Bruce, William Wallace and Rob Roy MacGregor. Mountains, straths, lochs, forests, braes and waterfalls provide habitats for a rich diversity of wildlife as well as opportunities for a range of outdoor activities.

These include the lead and silver mining village of Tyndrum; Dal Righ - the site of the battle between Robert the Bruce and the McDougalls of Lorn; Killin, with its Folklore Centre at St Fillan's Mill, the famous Falls of Dochart and the clan burial ground of the McNabs on Innis Bhuidhe, or Yellow Island, close to the Falls; Queen Elizabeth Forest Park in the Trossachs, and Stirling Castle, with the nearby Wallace National Monument.
Walks, Trails and Wildlife Walkers and cyclists will appreciate the many footpaths, waymarked trails, cycle routes and forest trails within nature reserves, community woodlands, farms, plantations and native woodland. Local wildlife includes red squirrels and buzzards. 
For hill walkers and climbers Ben Lawers (1,214m) is the highest mountain in the Central Highlands. There are other Munros in the area. Ben Lawers is owned by the National Trust for Scotland and is home to alpine plants as well as Ptarmigan, Red Deer, Mountain Hare and the Common Lizard.
Sport Sporting opportunities include golf, fishing and a variety of water sports.
Fish from boats, from the loch shore, or on the rivers (permits may be required.) Lochearnhead is a major watersports centre. Activities include canoeing, sailing, water-skiing and wake-boarding. |
